I have to say that I didn't think I would ever decide to spend a hot humid summer in Waco. This is definitely the summer I have most looked forward to in about 3 years. Once there are no friends at home and your friends at school feel like your family there isn't a desire to spend a lot of time somewhere different. For me I haven't felt like going home to Kansas City in a while because I don't even get to go back to the home I grew up in and the people I am familiar with.
Despite the fact that I no longer have an amazing summer in Atlanta to look forward to I am really excited to be spending time in Waco. I will get to spend time with my roomie and my roomies have come to mean more to me than just about anyone else. I also get to spend time helping with freshman orientation which promises to be interesting at the very least.
Although the summer promises to be wonderful I have been so bored over the past few days. I need to have a purpose to my life and be truly engaged in something to actually want to do anything. My job search hasn't been very promising either, it seems that I was not the only college student that decided to work here over the summer which is making finding a job difficult.
The highlight of this week has definitely been adopting my first pet. I don't know why but more than almost anything else "adult" I have done this made me feel the most "grown-up". I have been living on my own and paying bills and such for the past 2 years, but adopting a kitten has been the first major decision that I have made without consulting my dad and was able to pay for on my own. It felt really good to rescue my kitty because it was so hard to part with him when I went home after finals. Lacedarius is adjusting really well to my house and I am adjusting to all the changes that have been thrown at me this summer really well also.
